Amex Platinum No Longer Accepted at AA & US Air Clubs
I received an email today from American Express that neither my personal Platinum card nor my business Platinum card will allow me complimentary access to American Airlines Admirals Clubs or US Airways Clubs as of March 22, 2014. It’s a shame because the benefit was a great perk and helps to offset the steep $450 annual fee on each one of the charge cards. Of course, in the email from American Express, they reminded me that the Platinum card comes with a $200 credit each calendar year toward airline incidentals like baggage fees or lounge access, so I could use that to help offset the cost of a lounge membership to the Admirals Club, currently priced at $500 a year. I decided to call American Express and tell them that “it’s a shame that they no longer offer the benefit of Admirals Club or US Airways Club access.” My one sentence netted me an additional $100 credit on each one of my cards for use on American Airlines on or after March 22. I confirmed with the representative that I can apply the regular $200 credit toward another airline of my choice but the bonus amount they awarded me today can only be used on American Airlines. Call 1-800-525-3355 (personal Platinum card) or 1-800-492-8468 (business Platinum card) to have a conversation about your card(s) – it took me only 5 minutes to make both phone calls.
