A friend of mine emailed me a link and offer code for free gold elite status on American Airlines through the end of the year.  Even though I probably won’t enjoy most of the benefits, I signed up anyway.  Here’s how:

Log into your American Airlines account and then go to aa.com/goldoffer.  Enter the promo code HVDGR and within 10 days, your status should be valid online.  Just be sure to sign up by September 27, 2013.
